Landscapes worth slowing down for

There is a reason waiting rooms hang pictures of mountains and water. Wide natural scenes give the eye somewhere restful to travel, and rebuilding one piece by piece stretches that effect out over a few unhurried minutes. The nature collection is built around that idea: open horizons, moving water, and light you can almost feel.

Each landscape is illustrated rather than photographed, so the colours stay soft and the shapes stay clear. That matters in a jigsaw — a photograph of a forest can turn into a wall of identical green, while a painted one keeps every piece recognisable.

What you will find in each scene

  • Mountain lake — still water beneath snow-touched peaks in early light, with the mountains mirrored on the surface. The reflection is the interesting part to solve: two halves of the same shape, one of them upside down.
  • Forest waterfall — white water falling through mossy rock and ferns, in cool green shade. The busiest picture in the collection and the most satisfying to finish, because the falling water runs straight across several pieces.
  • Tropical beach — pale sand, clear turquoise shallows, and palms leaning into a warm breeze. Broad bands of colour make this the easiest scene here, and a good one to hand to a child.

Tips for landscape puzzles

Landscapes tend to be built in layers. Place the edges first, then work down from the sky: sky, mountains or trees, water, then the ground at the front. Wherever a line crosses the picture — a shoreline, the lip of a waterfall, the edge of the sand — find one piece of it and its neighbours usually follow quickly.

The board keeps a faded copy of the finished picture underneath as a guide, so hold a piece over it and compare rather than guessing. Full instructions are in the how to play guide.
